‘Don’t move statue’

IN last week’s Star there was an article on the regeneration of Lisburn. It is not surprising that with the exception of a few family owned shops in Lisburn centre and in the Longstone area, many shops have closed down due to the financial state of the country.

I am concerned what will happen to the statue of General Nicholson if these regeneration plans happen. General Nicholson was regarded as one of Lisburn’s great men and the statue is still a great attraction to visitors.

Many people would be astounded if the statue is moved from Market Square. It can’t be moved to somewhere of lesser visibility.

We all hope that Lisburn will keep its wonderful statue in the centre of Lisburn as it is something we can be very proud of. Ask the general public.
