Over 40 golfers gathered at Down Royal Park Golf Course for the first ever Night Golf event on Friday, March 18.

As darkness fell, golfers were armed with a glowstick and LED golf ball as they took their position on the tee boxes of the 9 hole Valley Course.

As dusk fell the fairways, greens and hazards became illuminated with revolutionary LED markers while luminous flagsticks flashed against the darkness of the night, completely changing the dimension of the already challenging 9 hole course with fairways resembling airport runways.

The unique event created a real challenge for eleven teams and LED golf balls could be seen zooming across the skies of Down Royal, a spectacular sight never experienced before at the course.

Organisers from Ireland’s premier golf events company Irish Golf Expo Events said, “Night Golf events are a great addition to any golf club’s social calendar. They create such a great buzz amongst those taking part.

“Friday’s event at Down Royal was no different. The management at Down Royal embraced the concept and we were delighted that so many players had such a great experience”.

Manager of Down Royal Park Golf Course Bill McCappin said, “We were delighted to host the Night Golf event at Down Royal Park Golf Course and welcome visitors to our complex.

“The course looked incredible and the feedback from golfers has been fantastic. We hope to offer this unique golfing event in the near future at Down Royal.”

Following the completion of 9 holes, golfers made their way to Bar Bistro at the complex for well-deserved refreshments and prize giving, the winning score was a net score of 23 for nine holes.
