New president elected at Derriaghy

DERRIAGHY WI members were congratulated on their achievements during the past year at the group’s annual meeting in June when new president, Marie Darragh, was elected to the top post.

Outgoing president Pat Allen welcomed everyone to the meeting, particularly Helen Dunlop, executive member who presided over the election, and teller, Dorothy Andrews.

Mrs Allen acknowledged the following members for their successes over the year: Ann Hunter who won the Gold Spinning Wheel brooch and silver cup for wool embroidery; the quiz team for finishing third in the monthly competitions; and Nancy Scott who came first in the monthly competitions.

Deirdre Irwin who was presented with a floral arrangement for attending the AGM on behalf of the Institute and

Honorary Membership was conferred upon Rose Hilland in recognition of her long standing membership of Derriaghy WI. Reports were given by secretary, Enid Thomas, and treasurer, Marie Darragh, who was elected as president.

It was also agreed the remaining committee members would serve for a further year.
