New Policing Plan aimsto improvedetection rates

REDUCING crime and improving detection rates will be the main focus for policing in Lisburn in the coming year according to Area Commander Chief Inspector Darrin Jones.

The Lisburn PSNI Policing Plan 2012-2013, which has just been launched, sets out the local PSNI’s priorities and ambitions for the next 12 months.

Chief Inspector Jones said: “This year sees a marked change to the way objectives are set and how our performance will be measured and monitored.

“The new Plan commits local police to delivering against the three core principles of Personal Professional and Protective Policing, moving away from numerical targets.

“Our focus will now be on reducing crime and improving detection rates and ensuring the quality of the service we provide to the public is second to none. “The new Plan also puts particular focus on protecting vulnerable people in our community. By paying particular attention to the needs of these groups we will ensure that we are doing everything we can to make sure they feel safe and secure.”

Councillor Margaret Tolerton, the newly elected Chairperson of the Lisburn Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) said, “The Lisburn PCSP currently only has its elected members and we eagerly await the announcement of the appointment of the independent members by the Northern Ireland Policing Board.

“However the former Lisburn DPP was heavily involved in the formation and development of the Local Policing Plan and as a PCSP we now look forward to working with the local police to ensure the effective delivery of the targets and importantly to monitor the progress of the police in achieving the targets set.”

Chief Inspector Jones added, “Across Northern Ireland overall crime is at a 12 year low and confidence in policing is steadily increasing. This has been achieved by officers working in committed partnership with the communities they serve.

“This new Plan sets out our challenges in continuing this trend locally and underpins our belief that policing is not just about law enforcement, it is about creating an environment in which all communities can grow and develop in confidence, securing a brighter and safer future for all.”
