New member is appointed to SERC Governing Body

Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry has announced the appointment of a new member to the Governing Body of South Eastern Regional College.

The Minister has appointed Mr John Mackell with effect from 1 February 2016 for a period of four years.

Minister Farry said: “Our further education colleges play a crucial role in Northern Ireland by delivering cutting edge provision, which enables students to gain the skills required within a progressive and competitive economy.

“The South Eastern Regional College has a strong track record of understanding and responding to the needs of the economy, employers and learners in its local area.

“The appointment of Mr John Mackell will help to ensure that the College has the strategic leadership in place to strengthen its performance and provide a better service for the whole community.”

The governing body of a further education college is responsible for securing the efficient and effective management of the college, determining its strategic direction and appointing its senior staff.

It also ensures that the college acts as a responsible employer.
