Mother holds walk for her son

The mother of David-Lee Clarke, who passed away earlier this year, held a fundraising walk in his memory at the weekend.

Lee Clark, whose son, also known as Dee Dee, would have been 11 on June 3, organised the walk at Wallace Park on Saturday, June 6.

Those attending held a banner during the walk and then released red balloons, into the sky.

His mother Lee said she was was touched by the many friends and family who turned up.

“Dee fought so hard to be here but gained his wings to heaven this year on New Year’s Day after many weeks in hospital,” Lee said.

“The walk and the balloon release was just how he would of liked it and apart from a few minutes of rain the sun shone for us.

“A big thank you to Stephen Murray from Reach for donation of t-shirts and for everyone who helped make Dee Dee day special and just as unique as he was.”

All donations will be go to Parkview School, Lisburn and Genetics Department at Belfast City Hospital.

She said, “Again on behalf of myself and family thankyou for helping keep my little boy’s memory alive.”

David who suffered autism passed away after almost a month long stay in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

He had been suffering for several months with bowel problems and went to the Royal at the start of December for several procedures.

He went into the hospital on December 9 but sadly passed away on January 1.

His mother had said ealier, “I would usually have organised a birthday anyway for David and it would normally have been in the Knockmore Community Centre. He would have his wee group of friends there and a wee party along with birthday cake.

“I thought I would still really like to mark his birthday this year but in a special way.”

She continued, “He was such a beautiful wee boy and a real character. He loved Power Rangers. His friends loved him and knew him as the Red Ranger. I know a lot of them are still finding it hard to come to terms with his death. They miss him terribly like we all do.”

Lee’s sister, Dr Sam Thompson is planning a fundraising night in David’s memory at the Lisburn Cricket Club.

Meanwhile another friend is also planning a swim at Strangford Loughfor David as well.
