MLA hosts Life After Loss event

LOCAL DUP MLA Brenda Hale recently hosted an event at Stormont Buildings for local charity ‘Life after Loss.

Life after Loss was founded in 2006 by a group of bereaved mums, beginning its life as an online support forum and growing into a 24 hour support network for those who have lost babies through miscarriage, stillbirth or sudden unexpected death.

Speaking at the event Brenda commented that “she had been honoured when Life after Loss had asked her to host the evening as part of national baby loss awareness week and stressed the importance of families sharing their experiences in order to help others.”

Television personality Eamonn Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford agreed to support the event with a pre-recorded interview for with both TV commending the hard work which Life after Loss was carrying out in Northern Ireland.

Within the United Kingdom 17 babies are stillborn or die shortly after birth each day. Here in Northern Ireland the reported figure is four babies a week, and statistics from the Royal Victoria Hospital show that 10 babies per year die from sudden unexpected death. Brenda said, “I don’t think the hurt and pain of losing a baby ever goes away, but charities such as Life after Loss help and continue to support families come to terms with the real sense of loss. I commend the vision and passion that Life after Loss has in supporting families and I hope they continue to grow in their support network that they can offer all families when coming to terms with a bereavement of this nature.”
