MLA calls on policeto tackle agri-crime

LAGAN Valley Assembly Member and Stormont Justice Committee Chairman Paul Givan has called on the police to take a pro-active approach to tackle agricultural crime.

Mr Givan spoke during a motion tabled by the DUP calling on the perpetrators of rural crime to receive heavier sentences through the judicial system and for clarity to be given to landowners as to how they can defend their property.

“There are large villages across Lagan Valley, and, if thefts take place on domestic properties, it will count as a rural crime. We need a specific target for agriculture-related crime and to have it broken down,” said Mr Givan.
