Meeting over A&E hours reduction

Representatives from the UK Independence Party in Lagan Valley and South Down met recently in Lisburn, to discuss the recently announced reduction in emergency services at Lagan Valley Hospital and The Downe Hospital in Downpatrick.

The meeting was chaired by UKIP’s Northern Ireland Chairman, Cllr Henry Reilly.

He said: “We saw recently a meltdown in services at the Royal Victoria Hospital, with the hospital’s Emergency Department temporarily closing to new admissions.

“The withdrawal of overnight and weekend emergency services from Lagan Valley and The Downe has contributed to what is now a crisis in the delivery of emergency care in Northern Ireland.

“. . . it is now the responsibility of representatives from all parties to bring forward proposals which can deliver the standard of emergency care patients require.

“As a priority, we must see the reinstatement of full Emergency Department services as a priority in both Lisburn and Downpatrick.”
