McDonald’s, Sprucefield and two local football clubs have teamed up to tidy up.
Hillsborough Boys and Lower Maze both leant a hand as the rastaurant staff joined with Live Here Love Here in support of the 2016 Big Spring Clean campaign to clean up around the local area.
They all helped to clean up along the Lagan Tow Path close to Navigation House and are urging everyone to make more use of the area.
The restaurant has ‘adopted’ this spot and are supporting The Canal Trust as they are embark on a project to reopen the canal from Belfast to Lough Neagh.
John McCollum, local McDonald’s franchisee, said: “As a restaurant we are committed to supporting The Canal Trust in realising their vision to reopen the canal from Belfast to Lough Neagh. By adopting this spot along the canal we are lending our support long term and would like to encourage more people to visit the area and appreciate its natural beauty.
“I was really proud to see everyone work together to help tidy up the area and it is great to see so many members of the local football clubs we support lending a hand. Ensuring the local area remains free of litter and an enjoyable place to be is a key priority of ours and I’d like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work.
“As a business we understand the important role that we play in making the area a better place. Whilst in the first instance we are keen to actively discourage littering, events like this one help make a huge impact on the local area. When local businesses like mine and community members come together to tackle local issues we are able to achieve so much more and this event is a perfect example.”
McDonald’s has supported the Big Spring Clean since 2010 and every April and May restaurants organise and support events happening in their community.
This is just one of a number of McDonald’s clean-ups which have taken place across Northern Ireland as part of. The campaign and partnership continues to encourage local communities to take action and work together to tackle litter in their area.
