MBE for Finaghy PS chairman

The award recognised more than 30 years voluntary service to education.

Mr Alastair Mackay described Peter as someone who works tirelessly behind the scenes, leading the governors to make Finaghy Primary School the school it is today.

He said Mr Mackay, who is from Drumbeg, was the business brain behind many of their community projects and someone who remains as enthusiastic as ever about the school’s future development.

Mr Mackay commented: “Peter’s work at Finaghy Primary, alongside his commitments as Rector’s warden at Saint Polycarps Church, make him a shining example of public service. He is relied upon in both organizations for his insight, his experience and his tireless commitment.

“Not only does Peter bring his professional acumen to the school, he works alongside governors, teachers and pupils with great compassion and empathy. We are delighted that his remarkable community contributions have been honoured in this way.”

Mr Breene said he was not only surprised but flattered at receiving the honour. As Chairman of the Board of Governors for more than two decades, he has helped transform the school which was originally built in 1934, to become a seven acre community campus, now containing a new hi-tech school, daycare centre, public library, Lottery-funded sports complex and playgroup.
