Man remains in critical condition

A 19-year-old man has been left in a critical condition following a serious one vehicle road traffic accident on the Hillhall Road on Monday afternoon.

The collision occurred at around 2.50pm on December 22 and involved a silver Toyota Starlet.

A 19 year old male passenger was taken to hospital following the collision to be treated for head injuries. The Hillhall Road remained closed for a time.

Inspector Niall Collins is appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision and who has yet to speak with police to contact officers in Lisburn on the non-emergency number - 101.

Anyone who can help the police can also ring the Crimestoppers number which is 0800 555111. The accident occurred on the day that a paramedic issued an urgent call for motorists to take care on the roads in the run up to Christmas.

His call came after 13 crashes were reported in one day.

Davy Sands, from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, recorded a special message just minutes after saving two motorists following a serious crash on the Hillhall Road. He said: “Today there have been 13 road traffic collisions.

“Listen, I want everybody to have a happy Christmas and everybody to be sitting around that table.

“If you don’t hurry I will not have to hurry anywhere.

“So please people, please take care, especially at this time of year.”
