Man given deferred sentence

A DISTRICT judge has deferred sentence after a man was found with a pair of wire cutters at Lisburn Train Station.

Robert Lightbody, 50, from College Green in Belfast appeared before Lisburn Magistrates Court this week charged with going equipped for theft.

The defendant pleaded guilty and the sentence was deferred to allow for the compilation of a Probation report.

District Judge Rosie Watters warned the defendant “I expect in six months time for you to have a positive report from the Probation Officer. If they don’t send a good report I will take a very dim view but if it is positive I will take a more lenient view.”

The defendant is to appear back before Lisburn Magistrates Court on September 23.
