Maghaberry woman gets helping hand to start new childcare business

A MAGHABERRY woman has started a new childcare business in the village, thanks to funding from the Rural Development programme.

Registered childminder Kristine Hill offers a ‘unique’ service for the community called Edenview Childcare. Funding was secured through a programme ran by NICMA (Northern Ireland Childminding Association), which identified 15 rural areas in need of new Childminding provision and targeted those communities to recruit new registered childminders.

“I was fortunate enough to be on this course as I am from Maghaberry, an area seen to be in need of additional registered childminders,” said Kristine.

“One of the major benefits of this course, alongside the fantastic training and support was the opportunity to apply for funding.”

This funding is provided by DARD (Department of and Rural Agricultural Development) in partnership with the European Union through a project approved by the Lagan Rural Partnership.

“This funding has enabled me to offer a unique service for the local community,” Kristine said.

“I have created a purpose built childminding facility which includes a large dedicated playroom with washroom facilities. The funding has also allowed us to create a large bedroom with en-suite facilities.

“This now enables me to offer a fully flexible childcare service, including overnight and weekend care which has been identified as a much needed service by NICMA and the local trust.”

Kristine received £15,152 of grant aid from Lagan Rural Partnership.

The NI Rural Development Programme is part financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and is managed by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
