Commenting on the issue Councillor Redpath said,“The Low Road presents a number of challenges for pedestrians and especially for children walking to school.

“There is little parking for residents except for on street parking and as a result there are often large numbers of parked cars on the street.

“The Low Road is also used as a short cut to avoid traffic on Queensway and accordingly there are unusually high traffic volumes often travelling at inappropriate speed.

I have been lobbying for a pedestrian crossing at the rear exit of Fort Hill School. I welcome the news from Traffic NI that this area is a priority for future works. However I will continue to press for a firm commitment to install a pedestrian crossing in this area.”

“The Low Road/Grand Street area has a relatively high position on our prioritisation list for the provision of future traffic calming measures.

“We have subsequently asked colleagues in our consultancy section to prepare a preliminary design for a further traffic calming scheme along Low Road and Grand Street in the near future”
