Lorry driver fined

A Lisburn lorry driver who drove down the middle of a road outside Lurgan forced another vehicle off the road, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Friday.

For driving without due care and attention on July 17 last year, Richard Wylie (44) of Tirowen Drive, was fined £250, given three penalty points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard the injured party was travelling towards Lurgan on the Derrytrasna Road, where the lorry driven by the defendant came towards him and ran him off the road, as confirmed by an independent witness.

Wylie’s solicitor said he already had three points on his licence,

It was a fairly narrow road and branches were hitting his client’s wing mirrors.

Wylie accepted he had gone over the white line but would say the other vehicle lost control on stones. He said that about an hour afterwards his client phoned police and admitted the offence.
