Lisburn snapper, Helen Savage has recently joined Remember my Baby, the charity offers a gift of baby remembrance photography to all UK parents experiencing the loss of their baby before, during or shortly after birth.

The charity has just launched in Northern Ireland and are currently looking for volunteer photographers to join their ranks.

Working with bereavement midwives and managers in maternity units, Remember My Baby’s volunteers have been able to offer some comfort and solace to bereaved parents in over 75 maternity units and NICUs across the UK, as well as a growing number of hospices.

Helen understands the value of a photograph of a lost loved one, after her son was tragically still born. She told the Ulster Star that whilst a photograph of their little ones may not seem like it at the time but this can be something to be treasured.

Helen said: “I lost my son 12 years ago and I know that at the time it’s hard to think about taking photographs. It probably seems a bit morbid to the outside world but the photos are the only thing I have so they are incredibly valuable to me. It is something I see the value of, having experienced it.” When a family loses a lifetime’s potential for capturing milestones as their child grows, Remember My Baby Volunteer Photographers will capture images of a precious baby with parents, siblings and extended family for free. Helen added: “The midwife would be aware of this service and once we get enough photographers we will be able to offer a larger service across Northern Ireland.”

Each family will receive a ‘free gift’ of high resolution digital images with a licence to print for their own personal use.
