Local groups are invited to dig-in with Dobbies

DOBBIES Garden World Lisburn has announced a bursary worth £6000 to help its local community to get growing through the garden centre’s community campaign, Here We Grow.

Here We Grow is aimed at getting schools, charities and community groups involved in gardening by donating gardening equipment and expert advice. Dobbies wants to inspire its local community to transform outdoor space into sensory havens, wildlife gardens or add some colour to a derelict piece of land to benefit local people.

Over the past year more than 35 projects have been supported in Northern Ireland – from veggie patches and water gardens to bulb planting and Christmas tree donations.

Barbara McLeod, Community Champion, said: “Here We Grow is a fantastic opportunity for the local community, including local schools, charities and community groups, to get out into their gardens and grow.

“Throughout the year Dobbies will work with a variety of local groups looking to create sensory gardens, veggie patches, wildlife retreats and create spring colour by taking part in our Big Bulb plant.”

To launch Here We Grow 2012, Dobbies’ first project will be to donate “Grow your Own” starter kits– including tools, seeds, plants and equipment to get the local community on its way to growing fruit and veg.

If you would like to put your group forward (including if you’re a national charity looking for support on a local level, a school, community group, local charity, hospice or care home), to be considered for Here We Grow support write to the Dobbies Community Champion by email at [email protected].
