Local business representatives battle for sporting superiority

Business representatives from across Lisburn and Castlereagh are battling it out in a series of sporting challenges to see who's the best.

The ‘LCCC Business Games’ challenge is part of the council’s Business Solutions ‘Investing in Health, Profit in Business’ Programme, jointly funded by the Public Health Agency.

There are three stages to be completed by the 17 local businesses that have signed up for the first year of the ‘LCCC Business Games’. They have to battle it out during the Dodgeball, Olympic Handball and Tag Rugby stages to see which team will be crowned the ‘Business Champion’.

The 17 local businesses recently came together to compete in the Dodgeball stage at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex, to test their team performance while enhancing their personal health and wellbeing.

Councillor Uel Mackin, Chairman of the council’s Development Committee, praised the businesses taking part.

“Once again the businesses in Lisburn & Castlereagh are staying one step ahead of the competition by taking the lead on promoting health and wellbeing amongst their staff, demonstrating their commitment to a healthy and motivated workforce,” he said.

“The council is delighted with the support and buy-in from our local businesses to the Business Games, and I’m looking forward to seeing more businesses getting involved in the tournament as it gathers momentum over the coming weeks.”

Councillor Tim Morrow, Chairman of the council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, commented: “The business world is driven by competition and the Business Games add the elements of fun and camaraderie to this. Each dodgeball team took to the court with the aspiration of success and everyone played very well and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

“There are many health, economic and social benefits to playing sport and it is allows local businesses to test their team spirit and promote health in the workplace. There is a strong relationship between the culture of a company and its productivity.”

Councillor Morrow added: “I would like to congratulate Café Vic-Ryn on winning the Dodgeball Plate and Spartan Sports Coaching on taking top spot and winning the Dodgeball Cup.

“I would also like to thank the council’s Sports Development Unit for organising this event. The Business Games challenge would not have been possible without the valuable financial assistance of the Public Health Agency and I am sure they were impressed by the willing participation by the players in physical activity after a day in the office.”

The businesses that took part were Café Vic-Ryn, McCulla Ireland, B&M Bargains, Allen Logistics, Out There Services, NTCLTD, Hampton Estates, Fusion Heating (two teams), Norman Elliot & Co, Cardan, LM Services, Bob & Berts, Game Lisburn, YMCA, Spartan Sports Clothing and Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.

We know that physical activity is a great way for colleagues within the workplace to have a bit of fun, burn off any work stress from the day and to work as a team.

“There has been a fantastic commitment from the local businesses across the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area and credit to Kevin Madden and his team for everything being so well organised.

“The fun levels are so high that the teams can’t wait to play in the remaining events and really want to see these games happen again.”
