Lisburn students visitleading veggie producer

STUDENTS from South Eastern Regional College’s Lisburn campus got a taste of real life business on an educational visit to one of Northern Ireland’s leading vegetable producers, Mash Direct.

The year two Extended Diploma Business Studies students had the opportunity to visit the Bangor production facility and discover how the company runs and manages its staff and resources.

The day was designed to help students understand how the skills they are learning can be used in practice and they were given a detailed talk about Mash Direct’s daily operations by Production Director Neil Houghton followed by a brief health and safety induction and some protective clothing before the tour.

Next, students were shown the main production facility to experience a ‘bird’s eye view’ of how the products are produced, packaged and distributed.

The visit was rounded off by a question and answer session where the students were able to seek more detailed information on key aspects of business.

Conall McAleenan, SERC Business Studies lecturer said: ““Educational visits like this are hugely beneficial to the students and complement their studies.”
