Lisburn police seize £60,000 of drugs

A 53 year-old man was arrested after the police stopped a vehicle on the Dundrod Road at Nutts Corner at approximately 9.30pm on Friday and seized a large amount of suspected cocaine.

The man was charged with possession of class A drugs and possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.

When he appeared at Lisburn Magistrates Court on Monday November 23, the defendant, Lawrence McLaughlin, whose address was given as Buskin Way in Coleraine, spoke to confirm that he understood the charges before the court.

A police officer told the court he believed he could connect the defendant to the charges.

District Judge Rosie Watters remanded McLaughlin in custody to appear again before the court on December 21 via Videolink.

Police also seized a large quantity of drugs from a house in the Lisburn area last Wednesday (November 18).

A spokesperson for the police said: “As a result of a pro active search by the Lisburn Neighbourhood Policing Team a large quantity of drugs have been seized from a house in the Lisburn area.”

As a result of the operation, one arrest was made and a person is said to be assisting the police with their enquiries.

Lisburn Councillor, Alexander Redpath, praised the police for their action in seizing drugs and making arrests.

“I would like to congratulate the PSNI on these major drugs finds,” said Mr Redpath.

“I am pleased that arrests have followed and I look forward to further arrests being made in the future if necessary. Drugs are an insidious influence on our community and it’s only through the hard work and dedication of our local officers that this issue is being tackled.”
