Lisburn community groups getaccredited

LISBURN Council has recognised a number of community groups and representatives for supporting their community.

Residents and community groups throughout the area received certificates last month for achieving accreditation in Supporting Communities NI’s Level 1 and Level 3 awards in Community Capacity Building.

Training, which was funded and supported by Lisburn City Council and accredited by the Open College Network NI has been running in the Lisburn area for the past six years.

Certificates were presented to participants who achieved the Level 3 award in Community Capacity Building. This course, which ran for nearly a year and looked at modules such as partnership working, developing community organisations, social justice and monitoring and evaluation.

During the event congratulations were given to all those participants who completed the popular Community Capacity Building Level 1 programme, a 12 week course which looks at elements such as effective meetings, financial management, fundraising, lobbying and dealing with the media.

Lisburn Mayor Brian Heading said: “It is wonderful to see so many groups and individuals benefiting from this training programme and even more positive to see the difference the groups are making within the Lisburn area.”
