After losing two stone in weight a few years ago, at a Lisburn Weightwatchers class the 28-year-old gained enough new found confidence to lose ten inches of her hair which was then donated to the Princess Trust, a charity that makes wigs for children with cancer.

As a result Kerry from Woodland Park raised - thanks to members of other Weightwatchers classes in Crumlin and Lisburn - £1,700 for the Children’s Hospice.

Kerry, who has been dealing with her long hair for a while was at her hairdressers for a cut earlier this year and began talking about wanting to have it cut.

Her hairdresser suggested to donate her hair for charity.

“I had never really thought about it,” said Kerry. “I was told later that many people do it and they keep going to get it cut then grow it again.

“I knew I wanted to get a hair cut and had not really thought about donating it before. It had been long for such a long time and I fancied a change anyway.

“I had ten inches cut from my hair and it would still be considered long.”

Kerry decided to raise money for NI Children’s Hospice a charity that she holds dear to her heart.

“My relations work for the hospice and I have done a a little voluntary work with NI Hospice,” she said. “I thought this would be the ideal way of giving something back.”

Her hair was sent to the Princess Trust and just last week she got a letter of awknowledgement to say that they had received it.

“It does seem weird having less hair but its great,” said Kerry. “Just a lot of getting used to. People have been very generous and for that I am thankful. I never believed I would get this much money its amazing.
