Jury sworn in for Scott Vineer case

A jury which is to preside over a case involving the alleged attempted murder of an autistic student in Lisburn was sworn in at Craigavon Crown Court on Monday (June 15).

Ryan Craig, 19, from Ashmount Gardens in Lisburn is accused of attempting to murder Scott Vineer in September 2012 - a charge he denied at a previous court hearing.

Judge Patrick Lynch QC told the jury that Mr Vineer, who attended court using the aid of crutches,- went missing on 6 September 2012 after leaving college in the city.

The judge also told the jury that he was discovered on 7 September 2012 close to the towpath at the rear of the World of Furniture store on Laganbank Road, with serious wounds to his head and brain injuries.

In addition, the jury heard that the attempted murder trial is expected to last up to two weeks.

Mr Vineer, now aged 20, was 17 at the time of the incident and has autism. He attended Monday’s hearing with his parents.
