The driver made the threat to Alderman Jim Dillon and Councillor Jenny Palmer who were at the site for the re-opening.

The car park, based at Antrim Street for 16 years, closed in October after years of legal wrangling and a ruling by the Planning Appeals Commission. Jordan’s Mill has been based at the site for over 80 years.

Lawyers working on behalf of owners recently discovered a loophole, and now plan to put forward another planning application.

The car park is expected to remain open for the next 28 days.

Councillor Jenny Palmer said, “This car park has proven to be the most popular car park in the city.

“There was considerable disquiet amongst the local population at its closure and management have worked strenuously to have it reopened.

“Perhaps now the council will give consideration to reassessing the application.”

Alderman Jim Dillon said, “We have worked hard to achieve this for Lisburn. It is the most popular car park in Lisburn and we should listen to the ratepayers who want the car park to stat open.

“We need to stop the car park from ever closing again. I wish the owners all the very best in the coming year.”

The owners of the site are expected to put forward another planning application.

“I sat at a recent council meeting where many of the local councillors were going on about the lack of car parking space in the city,” Mr Dillon continued.

“It was crazy to close this car park close to Christmas.”
