“I turned 40 in March and I wanted to do something in my 41st year,” explained Janice.

“I have started my training but I am already quite fit.

“I’ve been doing bootcamps for two years so I am fit and used to training,” she continued.

“I’ve done a trek before and you can only go as fast as your slowest person so it is important to train properly.”

As well as bootcamp training, Janice has also started walking to prepare herself for the trek.

“I have been walking a lot and we are preparing to do a trek in the Mournes on May 12.

“Everyone will be together for the first time and there is an organisation coming over from England to give us an idea of distance.”

To take part in the trek, Janice has to raise a minimum of £2,900 for the charity, However, she is aiming to raise much more than that if possible.

“It costs the charity £1500 to send me to China and I don’t want them to have to pay that so I am hoping to raise that on top of the £2,900 if possible.

“Ann Roulston from Conn Fenton Solicitors held a coffee morning for me and raised an amazing £1,055.

“I also have a Just Giving page and I am up to £850 so far.”

Janice is also holding a quiz night at the Empire in Belfast on May 9 and she is hoping local people will go along to support the good cause.

“I am hoping the quiz will raise the rest of the money I need but if not I will have some more fundraising events before I leave for the trek.”
