Health trust launches new nursing uniform

NURSES in the Lagan Valley Hospital are to get new uniforms.

The South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust will be launching a new regional nursing uniform on September 5, which will be rolled out in phases across hospitals in the area as well as in the community.

Hospital services staff in Downe, Ulster, and Lagan Valley will be the first group of staff to unveil the new look.

It follows the work of a Steering Group set up to look at standardising uniform across all health and social care staff in Northern Ireland, due to the current differences in many hospitals in the design, colour and provision of uniform and work wear.

The principle objective was to ensure that all staff would be easily recognisable by patients and clients, assist in the reduction of hospital acquired infections, and provide value for money.

Following the Steering Group’s initial investigations, a local uniform manufacturer was engaged to carry out a consultation exercise with more than 1,000 health and social care staff and to enable a final design of a new uniform.

It will have the designation of each staff member clearly embroidered on the top right shoulder and staff will wear their name badge stating their name, designation and area of work.

All Sisters/Charge Nurses will wear a mid-blue with green edging tunic style top.

Registered Nursing/Midwifery staff will wear a plain light blue tunic style top with green edging while all Health Care Support staff will now wear a pale blue and white fine striped tunic style top with green edging.

Samples of the uniforms can be viewed in the main foyer of the Lagan Valley hospital.
