Hardship fund welcomed

AT a recent meeting of Lisburn City Council’s monthly meeting, Councillor Luke Poots welcomed the hardship fund that has been set up for farmers following the recent struggles during severe weather conditions.

Mr Poots thanked the First Minister along with the Health Minister for coming out to Dromara to meet with farmers during these difficult times

He spoke with the First Minister the day he came out to Dromara and was assured that farmers would get a hardship fund.

They had discussed the need for hardship funds like the previous funds that had been allocated to those whose houses where flooded in previous years.

Mr Poots and the First Minister agreed that a similar hardship fund should be made to farmers who have contributed daily to our society and have went through a severely tough and almost unbearable time.

Mr Poots praised the Executive for their rapid response, as within three days of meeting with the First Minister the hardship fund had been agreed. Mr Poots also thanked Minister Kennedy for discussing the issue of road gulleys.

“The road gulleys being cleaned out before the thaw was vital to reduce the risk of flooding and the Minister’s co-operation was much appreciated.”
