Green light for new health centre bidders

Three bidders’ applications to develop Lisburn Health Centre’s planned move from Linenhall Street to the Lagan Valley Hospital site have been approved.

Planners gave permission at Monday evening’s meeting of Lisburn City Council’s Planning Committee to U R Care c/o Cubuc 3 Ltd., GPG O’Hare and United Health care Ltd.

The South Eastern Trust recently confirmed work would begin on the new centre this year.

Capital Development Manager Naomi Dunbar said the Trust hoped to select the preferred bidder for the new development byApril, with plans to begin construction in December 2015.

If the development runs to schedule, the Trust is hopeful the new centre will officially open in 2017.

The centre, on the left of the hospital site, will be 12,000 square metres over several floors and, together with a similar centre planned for Newry, will be among the first of its kind, bringing together primary and secondary health care on one site.

Plans for the new health centre also include a new car park with 400 spaces.

The health centre has been planned with input from a patients’ user group, which has been looking at the proposals and providing feedback to the Trust,

A spokesperson for the South Eastern Trust said the Trust is awaiting confirmation from the Planning Service and once this is received, will comment further.
