Gary strips it off for mayor’s charity

A LISBURN man is prepared to suffer in earnest in order to raise funds for the Mayor’s Charity, Stepping Stones.

Gary Neville will have his chest waxed at Transformations in Lisburn today (Friday).

Speaking about the forthcoming procedure, Gary said: “I am slightly nervous about the wax but I wanted to do my bit for the Mayor’s Charity and I thought it was something a little bit different to raise awareness. Also I am hoping that some of my friends will sponsor me purely to see me feel the burn, so as to speak.”

“I admire the efforts the Mayor has made to keep his charity efforts forefront in the local press and through the Council and I really hope to do the charity proud and of course to be smooth in the process!” Gary added.

The Mayor, William Leathem commented: “I am really grateful to Gary, it is a brave thing to do and I commend his efforts to push the boat out and try something new.

“We are all rooting for him and expect that he pushes through his pain barrier for the greater good of Stepping Stones.

“So many people have shown such incredible acts of generosity and I am delighted at the monies raised to date. It has shown me how kind, generous and genuine so many people are.

“I wish Gary all the best with his fundraising, and when you visit Stepping Stones and see the trainees at work and are able to partake of the great atmosphere created by all the staff at Stepping Stones, it is a great feeling. I am so pleased to say that everyone who contributes to my charity no matter how great or small is helping this organisation continue in its valuable work,” he concluded.

Gary can be sponsored by contacting the Mayor’s Office for details or by emailing Gary on [email protected]. All donations can also be gift-aided.
