Gaelmarie cooks up a storm

LOCAL pupil and aspiring chef Gaelmarie Milligan has been announced as a category winner and overall runner up in the Dairy Council for Northern Ireland’s Young Cook of the Year 2012.

Gaelmarie, who is a pupil at Beechlawn School in Hillsborough, beat off stiff competition in the popular cookery competition, which is open to all key stage 3 and 4 classes across Northern Ireland

The future masterchefs had to plan a two course meal for four sporty friends to enjoy before watching their favourite event at the upcoming Olympic Games.

Gaelmarie excelled in using locally sourced ingredients including dairy products to create a high quality and nutritious meal.

Dr Mike Johnston, Chief Executive of the Dairy Council for Northern Ireland said: “Gaelmarie showed a great flair and skill in her cooking ability incorporating her knowledge of using fresh and local dairy products to create a nutritious and healthy meal essential for an active lifestyle.”
