Lagan Valley DUP Assembly Member Paul Givan is set to propose that the honour be conferred upon organisations that operate in Lisburn and across Northern Ireland.

The notice of motion recognises the invaluable contribution made by uniformed youth organisations to the development of children and young people from as young as three and four years of age.

Mr Givan commented, “I believe it is important that the commitment and dedication by uniformed youth organisations to the development of our children and young people is recognised by Lisburn City Council through the conferment of the freedom of the City, the highest civic award that can be bestowed upon an organisation by a Council.

“The contribution made by these organisations has made an immense impact on our society over many years that influences the social, cultural, emotional and spiritual development of children from early years providing life skills and experiences that will be valued at home, school, in future employment and by the wider community.

“The timing of this motion to recognise these organisations is particularly appropriate as this year is the 125th Anniversary of the foundation of the Boys’ Brigade in Ireland, the first uniformed youth organisation.

“Lisburn City should be very proud of the service and commitment given by these organisations to children and young people across our City and I will take great pleasure in proposing a notice of motion recognising this at the next full council meeting.”
