Ewing expected to become Lisburn’s last first citizen

It will be a poignant moment for those recently elected to serve the people of Lisburn and whoever is elected will have the privilege of being the final Mayor of Lisburn City.

As is traditional, it is expected that the current Deputy Mayor, Councillor Andrew Ewing, will be elevated to the top post.

Councillor Ewing, who represents the Lisburn South ward, has served as a Lisburn City Councillor since 2005.

Educated locally at Wallace High School he also studied Politics in conjunction with Sunderland University and currently works for the Insurance Industry in Lisburn City Centre.

Andrew is well known to be an experienced, hardworking Councillor deeply committed to the people he represents and offers advice and assistance on a wide range of issues.

A former Chairman of Environmental Services Andrew is also currently a member of Lisburn Policing and Community Safety Partnership.

The DUP, who are the dominant party on Lisburn City Council, are expected to also take the Deputy Mayor post for the final term of the council.

Sources close to the council have speculated that Killultagh Councillor Thomas Beckett could be elected to the Deputy post.

The Chairmanships and Vice Chairmanships of the Council committees are unlikely to change as the current incumbents were elected last year to serve for a period two years.
