Series of events in the saddle for Bike Week

Bike Week takes place from 15th-23rd June and is the UK’s largest mass participation cycling event and a series of events have been organised cross Lisburn.

It provides an annual opportunity to promote cycling as a source of fitness and family fun, not to mention a convenient form of transport.

The aim this year is to encourage everyone to ‘get on their bike’ - by getting on your bike you can save money, improve health and fitness, protect the environment, reduce traffic and parking congestion and most importantly have fun!

Bike Week Lisburn, sponsored by Travelwise and the Public Health Agency will see a series of events in Lisburn to encourage people who live, work in or visit the city to get on their bikes. Today (Friday) Lisburn City Centre Management hosts a Bike to Work Day Breakfast between 7.30 and 10am at the Sunken Gardens in Market Square Lisburn. A free breakfast will be provided for everyone who cycles to work on that day.

On Saturday it’s your chance to get involved in one of three guided cycle rides - A leisurely cycle ride (mostly on the tow path), 16 mile and 20 mile cycle ride around Lisburn.

The cycle rides depart from Market Square at 10am and return around 2-2.5 hours later with refreshments provided at the half way point. The city centre will also see cycling displays and some children’s entertainment.

Throughout Bike Week there is also the chance to improve your cycling skills, try out a tandem or join a summer cycling group. For more information check out facebook.com/lisburncity or to register call 028 9266 0625.

As an extra incentive to all you potential cyclists to get on your bike during bike week, Lisburn City Centre Management has teamed up with Travelwise, the Public Health Agency and local bike shops to offer three fantastic prizes:

A free Mississippi Goldrush Gents Bicycle with Helmet worth £250; a £150 voucher from Cycle Zone, Railway Street; and a £100 voucher for John Hanna Cycles, Chapel Hill.

To enter simply go to facebook.com/lisburncity and like and share the bike week post. Anyone who registers for Bike to Work Day or the Cycle Rides on 15th June will also be entered into the prize draw.

The Prize draw closes on 17th June and winners will be contacted by 20th June.
