Lisburn students students Daniel Downey and Jordan Mackin are jetting off to study business in the USA this August.

The duo have been selected to take part in the British Council’s prestigious Study USA programme, having undergone a competitive selection process.

Daniel (20), a Law student at Queen’s University Belfast is off to Lebanon Valley College, Pennsylvania; while Jordan (21), who studies a BA in English and Linguistics, will spend the next academic year at Alverno College, Wisconsin.

Daniel, who departs for the US on August 22, can’t wait for the year ahead.

He said: “I’m very nervous about heading to America, but also really excited about what this year will hold. I’ve never been away from home for longer than a couple of weeks at a time so this is huge for me.

“I decided to do Study USA because I’ve always wanted to add an international aspect to my studies, and I know that this will be recognised by future employers in Northern Ireland as being something different from everybody else.

“I hope to make lifelong friends and experience proper American life!”

The British Council, which is the UK’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations, manages Study USA on behalf of the Department for the Economy.
