DPP initiative to keep groups in touch at big events

GROUPS in Lisburn organising large scale events will be able to make use of up to date communications equipment thanks to a new initiative by Lisburn District Policing Partnership.

The DPP has purchased six portable radios so that events attended by large numbers can be easily managed by the organising community organisation.

Lisburn Bands Forum brought the proposal to the Partnership as it wanted to improve safety at band parades by enabling their marshals to keep in radio contact with the police.

The radios will be available for use, free of charge, by any community organisation based within the City area under specific terms and conditions.

Councillor Trevor Lunn, Chairman of Lisburn DPP, said: “It is hoped that these will be of use to community organisations when they are holding fun days or similar festival activities.

“By using the radios volunteer stewards or marshals will be able to speak to one another and ensure that any problems or issues are communicated to the organisers as soon as possible.

“In terms of the Bands Forum, we are delighted that the marshals at the parades wish to use the radios to keep in constant contact with the police in order to ensure public safety at such events,” he concluded.
