Danielle thanks her family and friends for support

Ballinderry teenager Danielle McGriskin thanked her friends and family for supporting her throughout her illness when she won U105 Young Person of the Year at this year’s Spirit of Northern Ireland Awards for her commitment to research into brain tumours.

When Danielle was diagnosed with a brain tumour and water on the brain hydrocephalus, in July 2011 she started raising vital funds for research into brain tumours with The Brain Tumour Charity.

The fund is the first Supporter Group to be set up in N. Ireland with The Brain Tumour Charity.

In July 2014 she was selected by The Brain Tumour Charity to be one of their Young Ambassadors.

Speaking about her award, she said: “It’s an evening I’ll remember forever!

“I’m so grateful to all my friends and family for supporting me throughout my journey, fundraising and raising awareness of brain tumours.

“It has helped me to ‘Stay Strong, Keep Positive... always at the most difficult times.”

Richard Devlin, The Brain Tumour Charity’s Operations Manager for Northern Ireland, said: “We are delighted that Danielle’s efforts have been recognised.

“She is a fantastic and inspirational ambassador for the charity. We receive no government funding and rely on voluntary donations.”
