A 50-year-old man who struck a woman repeatedly about the head was given a one month prison sentence last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.
Vitalijus Noreikis, Lisnoe Walk, Lisburn, admitted common assault on a female on February 11 this year.
He appeared in court last Friday by way of videolink from Maghaberry prison.
The court heard that the defendant, who appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident, entered the injured party’s house and sat down on a chair.
He spoke to her asking her how she was in an aggressive manner. When she tried to ignore him without provocation he began to assault her.
The defendant struck her repeatedly on the head and when she tried to ring the police Noreikis left.
He returned approximately 20 minutes later and tried to apologise But the defendant then became aggressive again saying ‘I’ll kill you’.
The injured party lifted a knife to protect herself and the defendant left.
The victim was said to have had a sore head and a bump on her head.
When spoken to by police Noreikis said that he had an argument with the injured party but denied any assault.
District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, said this was a serious charge with a female suffering a sustained attack in her own home including blows to the head.
She added that there was no pre-sentence report because the defendant did not co-operate with probation and he had a previous record for similar offending.
