Cracking Christmas for charity

Following a successful three year term of fundraising, kind hearted employees from Lisburn-based Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland have presented the Northern Ireland Hospice with a Christmas cracker filled with over £29,000 of cash to mark the end of the partnership.

The vital funds raised by employees, which included £13,500 of match funding provided by the company will contribute towards the building of a new £11 million hospice facility on Somerton Road, Belfast.

The Northern Ireland Hospice was selected by employees, along with Arc Cancer Support Centre in Dublin as the company’s charity partner in 2013 for a 3 year term. Since then, Coca-Cola employees across the island of Ireland have really put the fun into fundraising, raising over £29,000 for the NI Hospice through activities such as high profile football matches, which saw Coca-Cola employees take on stars from the Irish premier league, select football players, employee netball tournaments, bake sales, family fun days, car washes and Christmas collections.

Speaking on behalf of the company’s charity committee, Sarah Smith, Public Relations Co-Ordinator for Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland explained: “Christmas is the season for giving and we are delighted to be able to present the Northern Ireland Hospice with this donation. Since the Hospice was chosen by our employees as their Northern Ireland charity partner in 2013, everyone has really got on board to show their overwhelming support for this extremely worthwhile cause.

“Giving back to our local community is something we’ve always been very passionate and our charity partnerships give us the opportunity to do just that, whilst improving our teamwork and having fun at the same time.

“This local charity has touched the hearts of our employees, many of whom have experienced the care provided by NI Hospice for themselves, and we wish the Northern Ireland Hospice every success in their future fundraising and care.”

Ellen Hillen, Corporate Manager for Northern Ireland Hospice added, “We are delighted to accept this generous donation from Coca-Cola which will fund a patient room in the new hospice facility in Belfast.

“The funds raised so far by Coca-Cola’s staff are testament to the dedication and energy they have put into our partnership. Thank you Coca-Cola.”
