Councillor recalls horror of Cardy death

Veteran Lisburn councillor Jim Dillon attended Jennifer Cardy's funeral as both a public representative and a friend of the family.

The Ulster Unionist has vivid memories of the horror and trauma her murder caused.

He said Black wouldn’t be missed.

“I can remember it nearly like yesterday,” he said.“I was a representative for that area at the time and it was just horrendous to see a wee girl vanishing and no-one had any idea where she went.”

Mr Dillon said he had pondered Black’s actions many times but couldn’t fathom what made him “so heartless and evil”. He said: “I can’t understand any human being as evil as he was to do that.

“This world is well rid of him, and I don’t know where he goes to after that.”
