Councillor in 
‘positive’ Moira works meeting

Last week a number of Star readers voiced concerns about the pace of the works and the impact they were having on traffic in the village.

After the meeting Councillor Redpath said:“A number of constituents have raised concerns regarding the ongoing works in Moira Main Street.

“As everyone knows Moira suffers from severe traffic problems at the best of times.

“These roadworks are sadly making a bad situation worse and it is incumbent on local representatives to do all they can to mitigate the impact of these works.

“I raised these complaints with Firmus Energy and was offered a meeting with Paul Stanfield, their Director of Sales.

“Paul is a Moira man and understands the issues we face regarding traffic.

“I believe Firmus are prepared to work alongside elected representatives to do what they can to make this process as painless as possible.

“Works should only be carried out on the Main Road between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

“After that the only work that should be carried up is clean up around the edge of the site.

“If any constituent has an issue with the works or wishes to pass on a complaint please feel free to get in touch with me and I will pass on these concerns to Firmus.

“Whilst the disruption to local traffic is unwelcome this scheme represents over £500,000 of private investment in Moira’s infrastructure.

“This work should open up the majority of Moira for residential gas supply.”
