Confiscation Order posed against Lisburn man

A Confiscation Order to the value of £12,303 was posed against Eric Jeffers of Portmore Avenue, Lisburn at Craigavon Crown Court on Monday June 3.

Eric (60) had claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit on the grounds of being a full time carer who had no savings or other source of income.

During his claim to benefit the defendant had failed to declare that he had savings in excess of the allowed thresholds. Due to his failure to report his true circumstances he received £14,160 in benefits he was not entitled to over a five year period.

The defendant on 20 November 2012 pleaded guilty to three charges of failing to declare his true circumstances.

At the confiscation hearing the Court granted a Confiscation Order in amount of £12,303 with a sentence of six months in default of non-payment. He has until 30 November 2013 to satisfy the order.
