Concern over condition of local play park

Speaking after her daughter fell in the park and cut her leg, she said she was very concerned that the park was a breeding ground for anti-social behaviour.

“The ground was covered in broken glass and beer cans,” she said.

“People are obviously using the park as some kind of drinking den at night and more needs to be done to make sure it is in a decent condition for children to use.

“This could be a lovely neighbourhood park and I would love to see it cleaned up.

“I would hesitate to take my children to it again because I would fear that they could be cut or injured on the debris.”

Lisburn Councillor, Alderman Paul Porter, said he had been approached by constituents about the same issue and he has spoken to the police about ensuring additional resources are put into deterring anti-social behaviour in the area.

Mr Porter also said he had asked Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council to roll out a programme to review all play parks in the council area.
“I have spoken to the community policing team about this issue,” explained Mr Porter.

“The park is inspected by council staff on a regular basis but it is a difficult thing to keep on top of.
“I have asked for additional resources to be put into the area and I have asked for the council to review all play parks, particularly those in the urban area.

“I would like to have a rolling programme introduced and Queen Elizabeth II play park will be one of those reviewed and considered for upgrading.”
