Chaos as train hits digger equipment
The incident occurred on Thursday morning (February 4) at 6.45am and caused chaos for commuters travelling between Lisburn and Portadown.
A Translink spokesperson said: ”We can confirm that a train struck a piece of construction excavation equipment that was on the railway line south of Lisburn.

Hide Ad“Emergency services were called to the scene. There were no injuries to passengers, and staff involved and passengers on board were taken safely from the train and transferred onto alternative transport to complete their journey.
“Bus substitution services were immediately arranged for local passengers between Portadown and Lisburn and cross border passengers were bussed between Belfast and Newry. Valid rail tickets were also accepted on bus journeys where appropriate.
“Safety is our top priority and we are currently carrying out a full investigation into the nature of this incident. We have also advised and will be working with the Rail Accident Investigation Branch and PSNI.
“The line will remain closed to facilitate the on-going investigation; however we will be working hard to get the line cleared and services resumed as soon as possible.
“We appreciate this incident is causing disruption for our customers and would apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
