Celebrating 100 years of MU in Christ Church

THE Mothers’ Union in Christ Church, Lisburn will mark their centenary next weekend with a Flower Festival entitled ‘Yesterday, Today and Forever’ and Art Exhibition with proceeds going to Mothers’ Union Projects locally and worldwide and to Parish funds.

Designed by renowned international flower designer, the Rev William McMillan MBE, in conjunction with Ballymacash Flower Club, it is sure to be a feast for the senses. An Art Exhibition will run alongside the Flower Festival.

The opening service will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday May 31, where members will welcome Lady Eames, the former Worldwide President of Mothers’ Union as speaker.

The church will be open for viewing all weekend with teas, lunches, and high teas served in the church hall.

A programme of musical items will entertain during the weekend. Vicky Heasley will sing at the opening service. Then on Friday 1st June at 11 am Central Primary School will perform and at 12 noon Lisnagarvey High School Choir and soloists.

On Saturday 2nd June at 2 pm Lisburn Flute Orchestra will play and on Sunday 3rd June at 3 pm it will be the turn of Roses Lane End Flute Band

As the Festival draws to an end, the Bishop of Connor, the Right Rev Alan Abernethy, will be the preacher at the closing service on Sunday June 3 at 7pm.

Viewing times for the Flower Festival are: Friday June 1 from 10am - 9pm; Saturday June 2 from 10am - 8pm and Sunday June 3 from 1pm - 6pm.

For car enthusiasts there is also a Classic Car Show in the church grounds on Thursday May 31 from 5.30pm, accompanied by a BBQ running from 5.30pm - 7pm.
