Caught speeding on A1 near Dromore

Alan Martin Crowley (60), Blackrock, Dublin was fined £60 last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for a speeding offence.

He was also given three points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard he was travelling at 74mph in a 60mph zone on the A1 dual carriageway near Dromore.

Because he had a southern licence he could not take up a fixed penalty.

The defendant told the court said that he truly did not intend to speed.

He explained that he had been under a lot of stress. He was coming up and down every weekend to visit his elderly mother and that week he had found out he was getting made redundant.

The defendant said he was on a good carriageway and his speed crept up.
