Car in fatal crash had been stolen

Police have confirmed that the man that died following a two vehicle road traffic collision on the McKinstry Road in Dunmurry this morning (Friday 10 January) was aged 22 and from the Dunmurry area.

The man was the driver of a silver coloured Chevrolet Captiva that was involved in a collision with a white coloured Daf box van shortly after 8am.

The 21-year-old female passenger of the Chevrolet and the male driver of the van were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

Initial enquiries suggest that the Chevrolet car had been stolen from the Harmony Hill area of Lisburn earlier this morning during a creeper style burglary.

The 21 year old woman was arrested on suspicion of burglary and allowing self to be carried and later street bailed pending further enquiries.

The McKinstry Road remains closed at this time.

Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who was travelling on the McKinstry Road around the time of the collision to contact them at Lisburn Police Station by calling 0845 600 8000.
