In a recent question to Social Development Minister in the Assembly, Lagan Valley DUP MLA Paul Givan discovered that over 400 properties in Old Warren and 140 in Knockmore estates do not have cavity wall construction.

Mr Givan commented,“This recent discovery of such a large number of Housing Executive properties that do not have cavity walls requires action to address this problem. I have spoken with the Housing Executive Manager in Lisburn to discuss what measures could be taken to bring these homes up to an appropriate standard.

“The areas of both Knockmore and Old Warren are densely populated with social housing and the energy costs associated with heating such properties would be greatly increased than in buildings constructed with cavity walls. As well as this increased cost, homes would be much more susceptible to dampness and moisture penetrating through walls causing damage to property and belongings.”
