Bus shelter wrecked for second time in days

VANDALS have destroyed a bus shelter on the Hillhall Road for the second time in just a few days.

The shelter outside Largymore Primary School was vandalised during the early hours of Saturday morning (April 28) and again on Tuesday (May 1).

Lisburn Councillor Stephen Martin has condemned those responsible as “reckless vandals intent on depriving the local community of a needed service.”

Mr Martin, Chairman of Lisburn City Council’s Corporate Services Committee visited the shelter to examine the damage caused for himself.

“This is the second time in five days that the bus shelter has been destroyed,” explained Mr Martin. “Evidently whoever was responsible took their time and did as much damage as they could. Council staff attended both on Saturday and Tuesday to clear away the debris which was proving a hazard on the Hillhall Road to both drivers and pedestrians.

“Bus shelters are positioned to assist local people to access public transport,” he continued. “Such wanton destruction has caused serious inconvenience for people going about their daily business.

“In addition, this incident affected parents and pupils at Largymore Primary School who were forced to navigate the mess left behind by the thoughtless actions of no doubt a very few. Anti-social behaviour is not a laughing matter. I am left shaking my head at the sheer stupidity of those who are responsible. There is no underlying reason of why someone would decide to go out and wreck a bus shelter other than cause local residents real difficulty,” he concluded.
