Brand new £3m care home brings 100 jobs to Dunmurry

THE Conway Group has opened the doors of its new £3 million state-of-the-art Kilwee Care Home in Cloona Park, Dunmurry. The new home will create around 100 new jobs.

The 44 bed care home is the seventh opened by the Magherafelt based developer, owned and operated by the Conway family.

The new care home, which has already opened its doors to new residents, was officially opened by the Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Brian Heading.

With a growing ageing population the family firm has responded to increasing local demand for specialist nursing care.

The new investment compliments the services of an existing home operated by the Conway Group on a neighbouring site. However, the new home has been designed to accommodate specialist intermediate and dementia care in addition to residential nursing care for residents.

Therese Conway, Healthcare Director of the Conway Group explained. “We are a progressive healthcare company, and have sought to lead the standards of care across the industry in Northern Ireland. The opening of our second home in Dunmurry has come in response to the demand for this kind of quality care.

“Our specialist services meet and often surpass the level of care found in the statutory sector. We hope to work with Trusts in all areas to ensure patients can receive the kinds of healthcare services we can provide. Both the physical fabric of the building and the care and therapy services we provide have been designed to create an environment that is a home for all our residents. The opening of Kilwee Care Home marks our continued success as a company, success that has been achieved by our commitment to the care of our residents and their families.”

Speaking at the opening event Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Brian Heading said: “Northern Ireland has the fastest growing elderly population within the UK. With such an increase in life expectancy, there will undoubtedly be an increase in the number of people affected by conditions associated with old age. Lisburn City Council is committed to ensuring adequate services are available to its residents including older people and their families. Such services include the quality local provision of residential nursing and specialist intermediate and dementia care.

“The facility I have visited today outlines the quality that is provided in the independent sector to meet the needs of older people. The Kilwee Care Home has clearly been developed with consideration of the patients needs at the forefront of the planning stages. It will be a welcomed facility to those in the Lisburn and Dunmurry areas seeking to avail of its specialist nursing services.”

During the visit MLAs, Councilors and Health Trust officials were taken on a tour of the luxury specification en-suite rooms with access to courtyard gardens designed to maximize sensory awareness for residents.
